Climaxes are hard

I knew what I wanted to do, but two things hampered me: Lack of time, and not wanting to jump ahead on the "reveal" of the statue. So, updates sat idle for the week. Never fear, three just got posted, and next week should be on time with the conclusion of the Kermit Kent story arc.

On the drawing board once anew!

So far, I had been posting comics I had already done, and wasn't actually making any new ones. Rather than post them all and abruptly stop the story line later, I, er, stopped the story line abruptly and have been holding the rest. So the net effect is the same, uh.. but the reasoning is different?

A large part of it, I discovered, is that my skills were not yet up to par for the job. You know, the important and high pressure job of drawing free cartoons that don't earn me any money. More to the point, I was getting strangled by the four block comic strip format, which is not to say that I don't like it, but that I don't like drawing in pre-printed sheets and scanning them for a number of reasons, most notably that if I screw up one part of the image, the whole thing is a royal pain in the tush to fix.

The primary motivator for this is the crowd scenes in the upcoming storyline. There, I wanted to put some characters into crowds, but frankly I didn't want to draw the crowds. So I wanted to play more with "photoshopping" (Gimping, actually) cartoons onto pictures, much like I did for the training montage. In doing so, it finally dawned on me that I could do this for EVERYTHING -- posting cartoons I sketched into a standard 4 square format without actually having to draw the 4 square format.

Technology is a wonderful thing. It eats your time, it raises the bar on what you think you should do.. uh.. hrm. Actually, scratch that last part.

Ok, end dithering. The next several comics won't show any major improvement; they've been pretty much completed for months now. The upcoming stuff I am increasingly more proud of, which is pretty good to say for somebody with meager drawing skills. I just need to remind myself to flip back to the beginnings of other comics and realize they started off pretty rough, too.

Welcome to Supertoad Comics

So I've been wanting to actually do a comic for decades, and lo and behold, I'm doing one. Boyhood dreams too often go unfulfilled, and while some might think that's for the best.. uh.. TOO LATE!

These early efforts are what they are, which is raw and unpracticed. You will no doubt appreciate the later strips, which are more practiced, if not exactly professional. Hey, it's free entertainment from little doodles, so if your expectations are reasonably low, you might just enjoy.
